So... all. year. long. i have been thinking about writing more in a journal or blogging more and making it into a book. Have i done it. NO. I am really bummed about it. Will i start? I don't know. But i will at least know, at this moment... i thought really HARD and long about it... and hopefully this is the tipping point for me. I feel that memories, stories and family pictures are sacred. AND i cherish and adore my children. I hope from now on, i can get on top of it, make a habit of recording things better... AND just do it. My Goal is to have ALL pictures from marrying jon up until now in some sort of book by the first of next year. WHAT?! ha ha. We will see. I truly mean that. We will see... lots and lots and lots of great photos. This is going to be exciting!

Owen started school last week. He was SO brave. I could tell he was nervous when I was leaving. But no tears were shed. (except mine-wuss). Jon Picked him up and asked him how it was. We were SOOO excited to hear. He told Jon it was kinda boring! ha. I laughed so hard. Poor kid... hopefully he gets more into it and shows his true colors. Owen is very outgoing and has the best sense of humor. But he does need to be comfortable.
I know every mother feels this way.. but i really can't believe he is so old. I just adore him. He is my little buddy. I love hanging out with him. We have had such a great summer. Lot's of pool time, splash pad, canyon, bike races, bbq's and playing with friends. He is also a great big brother. He even fished miss Lola Jane's pacifier out of the toilet today and brought it down to me... ha ha ha. She loves the toilet! darn kid. Good times.

This is owen and i hiking to stewart falls 5 days before sweet jane was born. I love holding his little hand. Tonight is one of those nights... where you just feel overwhelmed. In a good way. I am overwhelmed with JOY. The last few months have been so hard... so good... so special.
I love being a mom. I am so grateful that my body can carry a baby. I am so grateful for the sweet lives i get to be a part of. It is so hard. It is so amazing. Children are amazing. Owen loves to hug and cuddle me. He lights up EVERY single time i walk in the door. And all the love and care that has showered our home from friends and family... We are so lucky to be surrounded by so many kind people. Hopefully i can return the love.

this summer has been so great. i can hardly believe it is coming to a close. owen and i played really hard outside,up until baby jane was born... riding up the canyon to the water fall, hikes, parks, swimming- lot's of time with friends.... poor kid didn't know what was about to hit him :) we've been inside a little more. still lots of playing.
jane has been such a sweet addition to our family. and owen is trying hard to be a good brother.
jon has been racing mtn bikes each week, and we have had fun watching. he did SUPER good. pics to come. i have been able to ride my bikes the last few weeks. feels like heaven... i love it.
life is good.

i was cleaning up owen's toys... (a nightly ritual)... thinking about our weekend. and mostly our night. I am so happy to have such a cool kid. i mean really cool. tonight he decided to be ultra funny. spinning til he was too dizzy... dancing- A LOT... laughing at weird things... i am just so HAPPY. even though it is hard to be a mom sometimes... because, come on... it is. i feel so blessed and lucky. jon and i just die over owen every single darn day. life is so good. i have learned a lot about enjoying each day. thank you owen.... for showing me all the beauty i am surrounded by.

It was such a beautiful ride. It was fun to do with my friends... and we all made it.

Jon went down to Moab last weekend to bike White Rim with a bunch (over 100) dudes. It is 100 miles long... i guess it was REALLY windy that day. Too bad for them... but i think it made them really tough.
Really beautiful.. he said it was the most amazing scenic ride he has done.
Looking so good.
He and Matt finished it first... not that it was a race... but it might have been in their heads. I expect nothing less :) They are tough.

i am sitting here.. at the exact time one year ago when i was in route to American Fork Hospital... to deliver our sweet little Owen.

it was the best day of my life. infact... i was so sad to leave the hospital, in fear of forgetting this magical experience. i didn't want it to end... and it was only the beginning.

the night Owen was born was perfect. 3 hours of labor. fabulous doctor and nurses. great support and love from Jon. the room was calm... he barely whimpered when he came. he just looked up at me...and then i held him on my chest. we knew his spirit... he is so sweet.

AND he came on his due date! he was just trying to be on time :)

our lives have been so blessed to have such a happy, fun, amazing.. little boy. as i am sure all parents feel.

owen... we love you. it is crazy how much love you can feel for someone. we are so happy... and so lucky...

LITTLE Rock Canyon

We picked up a soccer playing dog on the way that made Owen laugh a lot. He especially liked it when the dog licked me in the face:

October Snow at our Cabin

Nothing better than Beaver Canyon in the fall. It really is one of the most beautiful and rugged canyons that many people never see. You wouldn't think when driving I-15 that such a place exists.... the scenery gives me diarrhea (I hope I didn't just type that out loud). Fortunately for us, we have inherited many acres and a cabin in the perfect location.

Owen and I took a couple lengthy rides - one of them over three hours - on our 1984 Honda Trail 110 (we also have a 1970 Trail 90 that didn't make the trip due to some last minute health issues).... Owen ended up falling asleep on both trips. He loved rollin with the homey's:

Shelby got to ride our friends 4 wheeler and it didn't take her long before she was poppin wheelies and hockin loogies... she decided on that trip that we are going to be a 4wheeler and motorcycling family (say goodbye to our hippie, tree huggin, pansy hobbies). She loved it!

Oregon Coast

Shelby was surprised to find no bikini weather at the beaches... just sweatshirts and beanies. It helped her understand why i was so white after i lived there for a couple years... that, along with no sun for 9 months out of the year.

Owen loves chillin in our white trash camper... and he loves his friends beeta and jape nips. Here is the three of them chillin in our mobile dining room near the Redwoods in Southern Oregon. He always does this face when we put him in his alligator pj's:

my new road bike

so... we bought this old camper.
we have been wanting a truck to haul around crap...
and lucky us.. we found one with this beauty on it.
we just took it up the oregon coast(pictures to come)

but this was one of our more local outings.
we camped near cascade.
it was my kind of camping.
pick up dinner at sundance, sit next to the stream and eat it.

owen loves hiking... and camping. he sleeps like a champ.
it makes us want to camp every night.
(i must give him props though...he is generally a really great sleeper!)

owen is now 3.33 months.
it is amazing how quickly it passes by.
i am enjoying it all.
i love seeing all the changes, i can hardly believe how
smart and alert he is...and HAPPY i might add.

we hooked up the chariot to our cruiser bike this week.
he is loving it! we put a little hammock like contraption in it
to secure him a bit more. it is so dang cute!

jon and owen look dreamy cruising around the neighborhood.
they always come visit the yoga windows while i am teaching...
lucky me

we are on our third sling... he likes a different kind of pacifier...
he is sleeping like a gem... loves to kick things... starting to grab things...
and lots and lots of smiles.

as for jon and i... we are enjoying riding our bikes.
now getting into road biking as well.
i love being outside and feel so lucky to be able to enjoy it so often.
we spend most of our days still staring at our buddy...
and we try really hard to fit work somewhere in there.

the pizzeria has a really good corn ap. and pizza right now.
jon and i got to go to dinner last night... we rode the scoot scoot.
anyhow... we were in heaven
i suggest going everyday until colton decides to be a meany and take it off
the menu...

also... soel is going great right now. i have the best employees ever.
i am so grateful.

as most parents i am sure feel.

but i do sit here tonight... this morning? it is 3:30 a.m.
and ponder about what i am doing...
not, what am i doing right now-why am i sitting on the computer at this time of day/night???

but...what am i doing? am i a good mother... am i being creative... a good citizen...a good wife... a good friend.

i don't think you should think about things like that at 3:30 a.m.

i should go crawl back in bed and try to sleep. it sometimes is hard to go back to sleep once you have woken up.
i am amazed at how my body/mind has been able to handle lack of sleep the last few months.

although i have to say... owen sleeps pretty good.. 8-4:30 (usually) and back to sleep at 5:00 til 7 or 8.
i guess if i was a bit tougher and let him cry, he might sleep 7-7. i am not though. his crying breaks me.
so i am happy with his sleep. for now.. at least.

oh yeah.. on the store... we are having a PARTY.. i mean it like PARTAY!!!!

i own a store... i get to be creative there. but i am wanting to do something more...
but time is an issue.

We were in california this past weekend.
it was so nice. 75 degrees. it was fun to go
from a winter wonderland to sunny weather.

it was high tide. all the surfers were out.
some of them didn't realize what they
were getting themselves into, until they
were smashed by all the waves....poor things.

Yesterday i wasn't feeling all that well.
i seem to be catching whatever anyone else
has lately... i guess that is another gift
of pregnancy.
So jon brought me home lunch and a
christmas tree. and then he put the lights on...
which i hate doing. what a guy.

too bad when he took a bite of my sandwich...
i had my first real pregnancy hormonal breakdown.
i guess i was feeling a little protective of my food.
i never thought i could sob like that over something
so silly... i don't think jon did either.

we went to cascade idaho last weekend for a wedding.
it was one of the prettiest places i have been.

I had some more footage on my camera from newport that i thought was bloggable, or blog-worthy (Also referred to by some people as oblogatory photo's ----- and by "some people" i mean no one else but me)...

Shelby and Jon cutein it out at the famous "wedge" between sets... don't we look salty? (and by 'salty' i mean delicious!) I had to tell wet-suit-guy to turn around... his face was weird.

the view from the deck of our beach house wasn't too bad...

newport

we just got back from newport beach.
it was so great.
i love being at the ocean.
we were there over the 4th.
jon of course wore his white trash shorts
(as shown in previous posts) as he long
boarded through the streets.
major parties going on.
we watched a guy throw a water balloon
at a car that just happened to have 4 police
guys in it.
they were ticked.
and they were also excited to show their power.
(at least i thought so)
well... the beach was beautiful and relaxing.
the boys all that it would be fun to surf the waves in
pleasure crafts.

hence the name... how could it not be pure pleasure.
it was pretty fun to watch.

the last day at the beach a 44 ft. boat came crusing into shore
going around 25-30 mph...
we were like... what???
we didn't know what was going on.
it barely missed all the people out in the water...
and them BAM $%^#^*
into the jetty...
couldn't believe what i had just seen.

i guess they had it on auto pilot...
and were all a bit wasted.
(i think they were charged with attempted manslaughter or something)
although no one was killed..all the people on the boat were hurt.
pretty intense.

on the way home...
we stopped in vegas
to play the slots...
suppossed to be the luckiest
day of the century..7.7.7
jon and i won and lost..
ended up losing 4 bucks.
we are risky...

good times.

last weekend jon and i went up the canyon to watch a movie...
we decieded to stay and camp since we had all the blankets etc.
that we needed.
it was so beautiful when we woke up.
jon was happy because we went "diggin"

poor little phone.
first i thought you were all the way dead...
but then after a lot of love and care...
and may i say... hope.
you came back. but only partially.
poor blank screen phone...
making my life a little more mysterious
never knowing who is calling or what my texts say.
so i caved
couldn't live like that for even 24 short hours.
i had no idea what i would get...
i have my heart set on the new iphone.

so i emailed my cousin who works at an apple store...
and told him i want one. june 29th they hit the streets.
but for now.. i am all business like and stuff with my
new blackberry.

i am feeling very sleek... not so girly any more
because my bright pink razor died.
you were a great phone while you lived.
many good times..

Yo Ga

so.. most of us know that i teach yoga.
i taught a restorative class tonight. i love teaching
that class. people are so nice and grateful.
so now it is on the brain... i thought i would write some thoughts.
i have been practicing yoga since i was 18.
now i am 27.
i can't believe i have been doing it for almost 10 years.
but it is something.. that once you bring it into your life...
it becomes something you continue.
i know i will age with grace because of it.
my body will continue to stay flexible and "strong" (who knows)
and mostly my mind. that is where i see the most benefit.
i love yoga.
sometimes i hate yoga.
i sometimes only do yoga once a week.
i am happy and proud when i do it 6 times a week.
because it helps me to be shelby. i feel more peace.
we hear all this mumbo jumbo about it.
like it brings peace.
but it does. and sometimes it brings sadness. and sometimes judgement.
and blah blah.
because it helps you become quiet and more connected. and sometimes
that is what i feel.
and because i feel real. i feel peace.
pretty cool.
sounds like i am promoting the studio.
well.. i guess i am.
because not only do i want you to feel good...
it just is good.
so that's yoga for me.. at least today.

Smokin Marlboro's

The only thing better than sucking in that pure, sweet mountain air is... suckin down some marlboro reds. I'm posting this case study today to corroborate the evidence which tobacco companies have presented to humanity for decades. Which is... that smoking is damned sexy! To prove my point, please note the confidence and sex appeal oozing from the picture above. Now, direct your gaze to the photo below and pay close attention to the feelings that it stirs within you (notice there is no cig in her hands)...

Although i believe my wife looks good in both photo's, i have to say that she looks way sexier in the first picture. What's crazy about this experiment is... in every photo we took this day where Shelby wasn't holding a cigarette, her face came out distorted and twisted.

This proven fact (smoking = sexiness) is something i was blind to for the past 27 years of my life. It wasn't until i searched it out with an open mind and performed tests (such as the one represented here) and came to my own conclusions, that i realized the validity of this theory. However, I'll let each of you come to your own conclusions and I will leave this open to discussion on the comments portion of this post.

riding my bike

today i don't want to ride my bike.
today i want to want to ride my bike.
i thought this summer i would ride 50 miles on my mountain bike.
i could do 50 miles on the road.
but pure single track... man.
so i thougt i would go with the challenge.
so far... so so.

also i need to go grocery shopping.
we just got back from L.A. market and there is no food.
i like to have a stocked kitchen.
it is fun to see what people have in their fridge.
there are usually some staples.

like we always have... stoneyfield farms vanilla yogurt
homemade jam
lots of cheese... mainly tilamook and havarti.
milk.. rice milk..
chocolate syrup
eggs..
not too exciting... and grocery shopping isn't either. except i love going.

anyways that is what i am up to today.

RENTAL cars and a funny honey

we are in california at L.A. market week.
we rented a car... we got a pt cruiser.
jon doesn't so much care for them.
i don't mind.
it is a black one... so it looks a little sporty.
anyhow. we didn't get the insurance. after having it for
two hours... someone hit it- and didn't leave a note.
a real jerk.
we sort of thought it was funny. but also funny nervous- we were.
we thought we would try to pull out the dent.
but..turns out the credit card company covers the deductible and
our insurance covers the rest.
so we were glad we didn't sweat it.
but tonight...(don't worry no more dents)
i turned to jon and said.. doesn't it just make you
a lot less nervous to run into cars now that
we already are covered and with dents.??..
he really wanted to purposefully run into things
i told him he could
he didn't
he pretended.
and then chose to abuse the e-brake.
it was so funny...and fun.
so..we are staying at a pretty swanky boutique hotel..
and we screeched around the corner.. and then
into the hotel valet.
the front desk people as well as the bell man
truly enjoyed the entertainment...probably as well as
my uncontrollable laughter..
(i don't believe in treating rental cars badly.. but you know.. it was real fun.)

i also recieved this in the mail this week...
i was sooo excited because it was on back order until july 30.
so i was not expecting it...
and the best part-- it fits just right.
out with the old in with the new.
(except i believe in re-using-so this is actually
the first piece of new furniture i have bought
rather then reupholstering an oldie)
i had the hardest time deciding on a couch...
i will post pictures of it in my living room
with all the cute pillows on it.

yesterday jon and i went for a wander in the woods.
it was absolutely beautiful.
the lighting was just perfect.
it was that time of day... where day hits night....almost.
it was so quiet and peacful.

but she just had a new baby last thusday..

this is my first time to hawaii. it is amazing. we have been doing a lot of beach time. we went snorkeling yesterday. i also have never done that. i couldn't believe how much i liked it. it was such an amazing thing to experience. we then went to "blow hole"
today we did some hiking to waterfalls and went swimming in the natural pools. it is so nice to take a break...
